We have partnered with the State of Florida Department of Transportation's South Florida Commuter Services to for our new Carpool Program.




FIU’s Carpool Program encourages Florida International University members to reduce the number of times they drive alone to campus each week.

The program even allows members to track their dollar, emission, and fuel savings.

Rules

Requirements
To participate in the Carpool Program, you must be a member of the FIU community (student, faculty, staff, etc.) and have a valid decal. 

To park in the carpool designated spaces, two (2) Carpool permits in conjunction with the FIU decal must be displayed.  Users can only park in the space their decal allows, normal FIU Parking rules apply (for example: FSA can park in student, housing, and faculty.)

Remember:
A single carpool permit, by itself, is not valid for parking in carpool spaces anywhere on campus.

Only one carpool member’s vehicle may park in any of the carpool zones on campus at any time. If more than one carpool member parks in any of the carpool areas at the same time, both vehicles are subject to receiving parking citations.
 
Penalties for Misuse
Individuals falsely participating in the carpool program shall be subject to a $150 fine, plus the cost of a decal fraud citation, vehicle impoundment, and loss of carpool parking privileges for the remainder of the current decal year and the following decal year.

How does the FIU’s Carpool Program works?

You must first register on the FIU’s Carpool website. Then complete your profile: basic information, start address, destination address, and preferences.

  4. Update “Commute Tracker” to see how much money and emissions are saved

The program allows you to search for other carpool members by selecting location, schedules, and lifestyle preferences. It's easy to use and quick. You will remain anonymous to users, until you decide you want to make contact to form a group. You can view potential ride matches from a map of the general area of your route.

Who Is eligible to participate?

Any member of the FIU community (student, faculty, staff, etc.) and that has a valid decal. Once your carpool group has been established, then the Carpool permit can be given out to its members at the MMC or BBC Parking Office.Will be issued by South Florida Commuter Services(SFCS). 

How do I get preferred parking?

To park in these designated spaces, two (2) Carpool permits must be displayed in conjunction with the FIU decal. Normal FIU Parking rules apply.

Carpool parking spaces will be added in each decal category, as needed, to expand carpool zones and accommodate new carpool groups. Carpool zones will be located in high-demand areas around campus.

Emergency Ride Home

The Emergency Ride Home Program allows participants in the FIU’s Carpool to leave campus in the event of an unexpected personal or family emergency.

You must get approval from the Parking Office prior to leaving FIU, by 4:00pm, and reimbursement for cab fare home, upon submission of a valid receipt. There is a reimbursement maximum of $50.00 a year.

Remember: A single carpool permit, by itself, is not valid for parking in carpool spaces anywhere on campus. Only one carpool member’s vehicle may park in any of the carpool zones on campus at any time. If more than one carpool member parks in any of the carpool areas at the same time, both vehicles are subject to receiving parking citations.
