FIU’s GreenRide Carpool Program encourages Florida International University members reduce the number of times they drive alone to campus each week.
In July 2008, Susana Neira and Bill Foster were interviewed by CBS4 about the new GreenRide Carpool Program. Bill Foster is the Director of Parking & Transportation and Susana Neira is a senior at FIU.
During July, Lissette Hernandez, the Assistant Director of Parking & Transportation, was also interviewed by Univision regarding the new GreenRide Carpool Program. Along with Lissette Herandez, a few students were asked about their thoughts on the program.
To participate in the GreenRide Program, you must be a member of the FIU community (student, faculty, staff, etc.) and have a valid decal.
To park in the carpool designated spaces, two (2) GreenRide permits in conjunction with the FIU decal must be displayed. Users can only park in the space their decal allows, normal FIU Parking rules apply (for example: FSA can park in student, housing, and faculty.)
A single carpool permit, by itself, is not valid for parking in carpool spaces anywhere on campus.
Only one carpool member’s vehicle may park in any of the carpool zones on campus at any time. If more than one carpool member parks in any of the carpool areas at the same time, both vehicles are subject to receiving parking citations.
Individuals falsely participating in the carpool program shall be subject to a $150 fine, plus the cost of decal fraud citation, vehicle impoundment, and loss of carpool parking privileges for the remainder of the current decal year and the following decal year.
